ONE ROOM CHALLENGE: WEEK 3!

April 26, 2019

This week, I'm nailing it.

Seriously, we're just nailing these boards up. But, yes I'm also doing a great job

Week 3 was all about getting this board and batten up! No finishes yet, like the mirror, hanging plants, or artwork. That will all come next week.

Here's how we did it:

Supplies

-1 in. x 2 in. x 8ft. Furring Strips (13)

-Paintable Caulk

-Finish Nails

Tools Needed

-Hammer

-Tape Measure

-Level

-Miter Saw

Step 1

Start out by roughly leaning each board against the wall, to get an idea of where you want the boards. I decided to have 14 inches between each board.

Step 2

Measure the length for each board. We had 86 inches from the ceiling to the top of the baseboard. Then measure the width between the boards and mark off with pencil lightly.

Step 3

Let's explain how to handle said baseboard. Using a miter saw we cut 6 inches (the height of the baseboard) off each board. As you can see, we cut a 45 degree angle so that the baseboard laid semi flush against the board and batten. (This is before we hammered it in snug)

Step 4

Begin nailing each board up using finish nails. Be sure to make sure everything is level as you go!

Step 5

Cover the nail holes with putty if needed and caulk the seams. Don't forget about that section above the baseboard! Don't want to catch your ankles on that!

Step 6

Paint over the seams and boards! and you're done! (We haven't gotten this far yet, as you can see)

We're beyond happy with it so far! We toyed with the idea of doing a crown molding on top, but Seth really liked the look of the boards going flush up against the ceiling. Now that it's up, I can't disagree with him!

Next week we're hitting the finishes! It's starting to come together!
