APARTMENT DECORATING: HOW TO MAKE IT NOT SUCK

1. PEEL & STICK... ANYTHING

Wallpaper, tiles, faux marble contact paper. The possibilities are endless with anything peel and stick. Double check before installing that it will come off without any residue, and get to it!

2. USE STUFF YOU ACTUALLY WANT

I think the reasons rentals can end up feeling less than cozy, is that a lot of us view them as temporary. That means we pop in some second hand furniture and call it a day. (not that there is anything wrong with second hand furniture, as long as you actually like it) Instead, take your time with the place. Actually give it some thought and create, buy, or DIY décor that you love!

3. WINDOW TREATMENTS

I recognize that some of you might not be able to hang things on the wall, so this doesn't apply to you. BUT, for the rest of us, hang some drapes! Curtains hung high and wide will make the room feel bigger and add a cozy factor.

4. FAUX BUILT-INS

Using a couple simple Billy bookcases from Ikea and trim to fit, in a weekend you could have an inexpensive and temporary Built-in. *If you've got kids, be sure to secure these to the wall and follow any safety instructions that comes with it.

5. MAKE A PLAN

This week I shared this simple and free design software I found and it is AMAZING. You can create an exact layout of your space by inputting your own dimensions, flooring, wall color, and light fixtures and even throw in furniture and décor. After you're finished creating a layout, there's an option to "Take a 3D photo" and it gives you a surprisingly good quality photo of what the space will look like. I highly recommend anyone do this before buying a single thing! It helps reduce waste and it's a ton of fun!
